> FEMALE BETTA SORORITY
>> A HOW TO
So, you're wanting to start a sorority? Just can't get enough of the beauty of bettas and only have so much room for tanks? you should read this first.
It's said that only the males of this breed are aggressive, but those rumors aren't true. females can be just as aggressive as their counterparts, but they can still live in a group. You'll need to read this carefully, and possibly do some further research on how to care for a sorority.
It will cost a lot of money.
what you'll need
you will need lots and lots of plants. since the girls can still be aggressive, it is best to break line of sight, so you'll need to get tall plants as well as floating plants. the floating plants will keep the bullies from preventing the others to come up for air. plants can also provide a quick hiding place.
a cave for each girl will also be a must. that way they can claim their own territory evenly.
in order for a sorority to work, you'll need at least five fish in a ten gallon tank. anything less will cause stress and violence. try to keep them similar in size (it's said that the younger the better, because they haven't fully developed the aggressive personality trait) and with different colors. getting some from the same spawning ("sisters") means they'll already be used to each other and won't fight as much as strangers.
how to proceed
got everything? now it's time to place your fish. You should buy all your fish at the same time, and acclimate them to the water together. That way they can get used to each other while bobbing, then have an even chance at the new tank. make sure that they do not go for each other first.
for the next couple weeks, the pecking order will still be crazy. they'll be nipping every so often, but don't interfere unless it is nonstop. the alpha, or queen as I like to call it, must be established. after that, fighting shouldn't be as frequent. if a girl can't be with the others, you might need to place her in her own tank.
disclaimer: I have not had a sorority myself yet, but I am doing research so that I can have one.
